Okay, so maybe sometimes it is not always such a good idea to make students familiar with story lines and music to prepare them for events. My kindergarten class planned a trip to enjoy a lovely performance of the Nutcracker Ballet. We’d read and studied many different versions of the story. We listened to different versions of the music. All in all- the basic story line remains the same. I knew the students were well prepared to enjoy the Ballet. In the quiet, darkened theatre the Ballet began. My students sat silently transfixed - enjoying the live performance. However during the party scene when the brother begs Clara to play with her Nutcracker doll one of my little ones gasped, stood up and SHOUTED
"DON’T DO IT – HE’LL JUST BREAK IT!"
A few giggles rippled through the audience but the wonderful dancers never missed a beat.
