Tasting Flavors

What Do you Taste Now? An Experiment

Materials: salt, sugar, unsweetened cocoa, lemon juice,
warm water, ice water, craft sticks, straws,
copies of the taste map and at least one test subject.

Use one taste at a time and place in a single region of the tongue of the test subject. Record what she/he tastes. Use the same taste and try a different region. Continue until all the regions have been tested for each taste. Allow the test subject's tongue to rest for at least an hour. Continue with all of the taste flavors. What did you find out? Is the taste area map correct? Try the experiment on a few different people. Are the results the same?

Can you create an Experiment to Answer these questions? Experiment Question - Can you taste a color?
